This morning as I listened to pastor Allen
speak on preaching, and what it is all about, my thoughts carried me away to what I would consider important about the preaching
and preachers. ‘marker on the way’ It is of course not my intention to take away what was said or even add to
what was said. Rather I want to encourage all of us travelling the same road.
I walked home from church and though it
was cold, I still thought of this marker on the way, and realized that it does not only apply to preachers and preaching but
to each one of us as we travel together.
We can all identify in one way or another
of travelling or hiking somewhere and at some point not being too sure of where we are or possibly where we need to go at
from here. It is at a place like that where we appreciate the marker that points us the way.
The marker was put there by someone, experienced
with the territory, probably travelled it frequently before, and realized there will be others coming this way for the first
time or unfamiliar with the territory
So the challenge came to me; “Am
I a marker along the way? Am I leading others out of unfamiliar territory? Am I pointing out the way?
My mind has no hard time finding an answer.
It quickly replies, “of course!” But the question is not for my mind; The question is for my heart.
